Air Flow Simulator (click photo to be redirected)
This simulator allows you to experiment with how air moves around objects. You can adjust the speed, add and remove barriers and plenty of other options to play around with.
I like to use simulators such as this one to play around with scenarios, especially if I’m struggling to figure out why a specific hide was hard to find. I can replicate the environment here, to view the airflow and aid in my understanding. In this photo, I’m viewing the air speed in a room with a good cross-breeze.
Some Simulation Ideas
- How do handlers and dogs influence air flow? You an use the ‘drag flow’ tool to simulate the movement of people and dogs through the environment. I like to switch flow speed to 0.000 and turn tracers on.
- Pooling odour occurs when more air flows into a given space then out of it. You can simulate pooling air by creating a wall with an indented section using the barrier tool. I like to turn tracers on and plot speed.
- Ultimate competitors, your dog has to navigate external doorways. How does air flow around doorways? Does the air speed up or slow down at different points around the doorway? You can use the barrier tools to draw walls, a door and an opening to simulate this
